Who are we?
Footbridge directs community donations to families facing a short-term financial crisis through third-party payment. We are a Pittsburgh-based 501(c)3 organization that won BNY Mellon’s Social Innovation UpPrize Challenge in which over 200 organizations competed for the top tech solutions to today’s social challenges.
Why have we formed Footbridge?
What sets us apart from the traditional crowdfunding model?
The traditional model typically works where those in need publicly post their request, and donors contribute to individuals whose story resonates with them over time. Below we’ll explain the drawbacks this process has for families in short-term financial crisis, as well as our solutions.
SECURITY AGAINST FRAUD
Experience has shown that when individuals can post a need directly, fraud can occur.
Footbridge relys on frontline workers, like physicians, to validate the caregiver’s need and initiate their application for donation.
EFFICIENCY TO PROVIDE FUNDS
The typical crowdfunding time-frame is much too long to avoid the impacts of a short-term financial crisis.
Footbridge distributes funds almost immediately to match the short-term nature of the crisis by requiring a time frame on requests and prioritizing those that are most urgent.
UNBIASED DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS
Fundraising success is often a function of how well individuals can tell their story. This process is inherently biased and can cut out those who are most in need.
Distribution of funds is tied to an individual’s validated need through the information provided in their request, rather than just their “story.”
Platforms typically require publicly identifiable information, which is often a major privacy barrier for someone needing help.
Through our process of matching funds to caregivers’ private requests, Footbridge never posts identifiable information, which enables complete anonymity.
How can I help?
We are preparing to launch our site this summer, and your contribution will ensure that when our front-line partners begin posting requests for families, we have the funding in place to support them.DONATE NOW
